Overview
Come and write with us! We believe writing should be joyful, and what better way to spark joy within your writing than attending a Derbyshire Writing School writing retreat?
Can you say ‘yes’ to any of these questions?
You never seem to have time to write.
You want to gain momentum on a writing project and need a boost to get you started.
You feel like everything in your life takes priority over your writing.
You need to start taking your writing seriously.
You want to surround yourself with like-minded people and write in a safe, supportive environment.
Does that sound like you? If so, this is the place for you, writing friend.
Why do we find it so hard to write? Because we have to make the time, not find it. You won’t just be given a spare day, hour, or week. You’ve got to prioritise your writing.
Imagine the scene. You’re looking over the beautiful Buxton Pavilion Gardens, a warm cup of tea in hand, the blank page, and you're surrounded by a lovely group of writing friends. You spend the day spilling your ideas onto the page and it feels good. The buzz you felt about your story is back. You’ve got a clear plan as to how you’ll keep writing. The day draws to an end, and you raise a glass of fizz with your writing friends.
That’s what our writing retreats look like. Pure Joy. Fancy joining us?
What’s included:
Space and time to write. You’ll finally be able to exhale as you give yourself the gift of time. The project you can’t stop thinking about. The novel you keep starting. The memoir that burns in the back of your brain. All these ideas need space and time. Give yourself that gift and spend the day with your words.
Caffeine! We’ll supply you with enough tea and coffee to fuel you through the day.
A goal setting warm up. You’ll start the day by sharing what you’ll be working on. Don’t worry, you won’t be sharing your work. This goal-setting will lead to accountability, and it will help us cheer you on throughout the day.
A light lunch (think tasty sandwiches and crisps) with a delicious cream tea – of course. It would be rude to meet in a tea room without indulging in a cream-covered scone!
A glass of fizz. We finish our retreat in style. Whatever you’ve written – a chapter, 1,000 words, a poem. We’ll toast your success. You showed up for yourself and your writing and that deserves a ‘cheers!’. We will end our day celebrating each other as we drink a glass of bubbles and admire the stunning view.
What’s more:
· We are only offering 6 places for this retreat. You will be with a small, intimate group of like-minded people. We wanted to create a supportive environment to allow you to feel comfortable and confident.
· After attending the retreat, you’ll gain access to a private storyteller’s Facebook group, exclusively for our course alumni. The group is bursting with regular ideas, prompts, tips and a supportive community full of like-minded people to help you on your writing journey.
This retreat is for you if:
You want to start writing more.
You want your writing to be joyful once more.
You want to make significant progress on a writing project.
We’d love to write with you.
You’ll need to bring a laptop, or writing materials (pen, paper) and you’ll need to bring a project to work on. Whilst we’ll start with a writing activity to get us warmed up and ready to write, the focus of this day is for you to commit time to your writing project. There will be no taught aspect to this day, and you won’t be asked to share your work. This is all about the writing.
1-1 Support
You can upgrade your retreat ticket to include a 1–1 session. We’re offering two very special places at this retreat. If you need a little mentoring, or you’ve got questions about how to move forward with your project, this is the ticket for you. If you upgrade, you’ll get a 30-minute slot to talk about your work and gain advice and support from Laura.
